What a percentile actually means

A percentile is a place in line among 100 healthy babies of the same age and sex: the 40th percentile means your baby measures more than about 40 of them — nothing more. Every line on the chart is a healthy place to be. What pediatricians watch isn't the number — it's whether your baby roughly follows their own curve over time.
